A debut fight for 19 year old 5'6, 110,8lbs USA's Katsumi Lee Smith against Cambodian 22 year old 5'7, 109,9lbs Ampor Hen in the summer season opener of the atomweight division. The 2-1-0 favorite of the fight Hen went down to the new blood in the octagon in 8th minute and 21st second by surprising technical KO from Lee's knee strike.
Katsumi Lee Smith is a daughter of Jeremy Lee Smith, an IT integration engineer, and Nana (Tsunoda) Lee Smith, a front desk manager. Product of a less than ideal marriage which fell appart in 2006 with Katsumi being only 6 years old, but already a member of the preparation sports club for young gymnasts, where she also eventually found a hideout from her less than ideal family situation. While her relation to her family could be described as cold, she was never suffering from the lack of support for her sports career, financial or otherwise.
In 2011 she first appeared at the Nationals, ranking 23rd, and 13th and 11th in the following years. However by 2013, it was apparent both her focus and physical constitution changing and the young athlete left the gymnastics field and joined Seattle's Master Na's Seattle Martial Arts School, where she continued to compete mainly in the free style Tae Kwon Do competitions, however only on a local level.
The turn around came in early 2019, when she moved under training and guidance of mestre Leandro Machado, who took her to her first amateur match up in MMA in July 2019, a debut that ended in TKO victory for Lee Smith. Following the initial success, the team of two moved to Wailing Rock, away from the commotion of the city, so they could better focus on training in a remote place, undisturbed.
